Aljezur
Aljezur Facilities
Aljezur is situated in the Costa Vicentina National Park, one of Europe's most beautiful nature parks, Aljezur offers a quiet or an active holiday. Just 7 kilometers inland from three beautiful beaches lies the little town of Aljezur. Its name comes from the Moors who ruled the area for six centuries until the Portuguese conquered Aljezur in 1246. The old quarter of town consists of small white houses, blue window frames and red tile rooftops along narrow cobblestone lanes winding down the hill towards the river. Many restaurants invite to a good meal of fresh fish, sea food and local excellent wines to moderate prices.
The new part of town offers a lovely square by the scenic church with cafes and a pedestrian shopping street .
Aljezur castle
On top of the village are the remains of a Moorish hilltop castle which affords excellent views of the fertile agricultural river valley surrounding Aljezur.
Aljezur Beaches
Monte Clerigo is an ideal beach for families, because it is a large sandy beach with some facilities. Amoreira is a beautifully located beach close to the town of Aljezur, it is possible to swim in the sea and in the river. Extensive beach and dunes take your breath by their beauty. In Arrifana a blue flag beach, the sandy shore extends for more than half a kilometer. It forms a small, sheltered bay, and for that reason it is less beaten by waves. Great beach for swimming and surfers of all skills and body borders.
